Here is a schedule of my Fulbright activities. Appearances open to the public are noted. This is current as of Nov. 29.

Sept. 28: Attend morning-long orientation at Instituto Camões for American students here on Fulbright scholarships; afternoon tour of the Palácio da Ajuda; dinner at the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa.

Sept. 29: Attend Fulbright briefing at U.S. Embassy (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.); Fulbright lunch (1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

Sept. 29: Give a talk on “The New Challenges of Journalism” to entering first-year journalism students at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) (2 p.m., public invited)

Sept. 30: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Oct. 7: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Oct. 14: Attend signing ceremony of agreement between the Luso-American Cultural Commission – Fulbright Commission and the Instituto Camões regarding Fulbright scholarships for American and Portuguese students. (4:30 p.m.)

Oct. 14: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Oct. 18:Fly to the Azores today. Interview by the Açoriano Oriental newspaper and meet with publisher Paulo Simoes (5 p.m.)

Oct. 19:Talk at “The Future of Regional Press” colloquium celebrating the 175th year of publishing for Açoriano Orientalbeing held at the Universidade de Açores. (10:30 a.m.)

Oct. 19: Workshop at the Açoriano Oriental newspaper for reporters interested in data analysis. (4:30 p.m.)

Oct. 21: Give a speech about the role of journalism in civic education and democracy at Fulbright Portugal’s annual two-dayBrainstorms conference at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Avenida de Berna 45-A, Lisbon). (Public is invited; my talk is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.)

Oct. 25: Lecture at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticasin Lisbon (11:30 a.m.)

Oct. 28: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Nov. 4: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Nov. 10: Lecture on precision journalism at the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. (3 p.m.)

Nov. 11: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Nov. 17: Computer-assisted reporting lab session with students at the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. (2 p.m.)

Nov. 18: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Nov. 25: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Nov. 29: Lecture at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. (2:30pm)

Dec. 2: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Dec. 3: Lecture for graduate students of Journalism, Communication and Culture at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (5:30 p.m.)

Dec. 7: Lecture to Communications and Journalism students at the University of Coimbra (10 a.m)

Dec. 9: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Dec. 10: Visit Porto for a presentation at the 2nd International Conference on Cyber Journalism to be held at the University of Porto(My talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.)

Dec. 16: Master’s class at UNL (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Dec. 17: Leave Lisbon…. 🙁
